Basant celebration: LHC announces reserved judgment

Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) has announced reserved judgment on the petition seeking permission for basant celebration across Punjab.

LHC while wrapping up the petition sent the application to the chief secretary Punjab with the direction to form indiscriminate policy in connection with Basant.

As per media report Justice Owais Khalid announced the reserved judgment on the petition filed by citizen Ishba Kamran.

The petitioner herself had given arguments on the legal position of application.

The court directed chief secretary Punjab to hear the petitioner, form the policy within 60 days and inform the court in this regard.

Under the order of court home department had filed report in the high court.

It was said in the report the Deputy Commissioner (DC) can give permission to celebrate Basant within prescribed days with the approval of the government. DC will ensure safety of the citizens ahead of Basant. The DC will ensure the safety measures for citizens as have been laid down in the law

According to report registration of those making and selling kites will be compulsory. Complete ban has been imposed on use of metallic string and other dangerous thread in law. Use of safety rods by the motorcyclists has to be ensured. DC Lahore allowed to celebrate Basant after all the legal requirements were met.

It was requested in the report court should order to dismiss the petition.
