CM Maryam Nawaz Inaugurates Signal-Free Corridor in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the newly completed 'Marka-e-Haq Square' signal-free corridor project in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

The corridor from Kutchery Chowk was officially named 'Marka-e-Haq Square' in recognition of the historic milestone. Following the unveiling ceremony, special prayers were offered.

The project, described as Pakistan's first unique signal-free urban corridor, was completed in a record 179 days instead of the scheduled 190 days. It includes five underpasses, two overhead bridges, and a state-of-the-art pedestrian bridge.

The Chief Minister toured the signal-free corridor and reviewed the overhead bridges and road infrastructure from Annexi Chowk to GPO Chowk. Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath briefed her on the project details.

Officials said more than 200,000 vehicles will benefit daily from the corridor in Rawalpindi's busiest urban area.

The Chief Minister stated that the Rawalpindi signal-free corridor would transform the city's urban culture. She added that the broader Rawat-to-Motorway 25-kilometer signal-free corridor project will eventually include nine underpasses and three flyovers, while additional underpasses are planned at Race Course, Chairing Cross, and AFIC Chowk.
