Deadlock persists between PML-N, PPP over appointment of chairman NAB

ISLAMABAD: Deadlock persists between PML-N and PPP over appointment of chairman NA.

Sources said former president Asif Zardari is insisting to appoint Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqir as chairman NAB while PML-N has come up with the name of Aftab Sultan, Ikhlaq Tarar and Jahanzeb Khan.

The meeting between Prime Minister (PM)  Shahbaz Sharif and opposition leader Raja Riaz could not take place due to deadlock.

PM has decided to start holding meetings with the allied parties to end the deadlock.

PPP has refused to give alternative name. Chairman NAB post is lying vacant since June 2. Deputy chairman Zahir Shah is performing duty as acting chairman NAB.

Opposition leader  Raja Riaz Hussain had also proposed to appoint some former bureaucrat as chairman NAB.

The name for the appointment of chairman has not been finalized so far due to deadlock in ruling alliance.

As per government sources more consultation will be made in next week for appointment of chairman NAB. A meeting is likely between PM Shahbaz Sharif and Raja Riaz.
