Federation, law secretary put on notice in petition challenging law regarding ban on protest gathering

Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notice to federation and law secretary and sought reply within two weeks on the petition challenging the law on imposition of ban on gathering for protest without permission.The court has summoned Attorney General (AG) for assistance.The court issued this order on Tuesday.Chief Justice (CJ) of IHC Aamer Farooq remarked public gathering is conditional to permission. A specific place is reserved for it. Assembly is linked to permission in the entire world including Europe and UK.CJ IHC heard the case Tuesday.Imman Mazari advocate appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner.The counsel said peaceful protest is basic right of every citizen and no ban can be imposed on it.The CJ IHC remarked the gathering is linked to permission and a venue is reserved for it. Assembly is conditional to permission in the entire world including Europe and UK.Counsel Imman Mazari raised the point 3 years imprisonment has been fixed for violators.The CJ IHC remarked the sentence of three years is against human rights.
