IHC dismisses FIA corruption case against PEC

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed FIA corruption case against Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

The case registered on the complaint of renewal of license on fake documents against PEC came up for hearing before IHC Wednesday.

The court while declaring the registration of case by FIA as trespassing of its powers dismissed it.

The court remarked under section 27 of PEC act engineering council itself is forum for hearing complaint. The council itself can see any violation in renewal of license of engineers or upgradation. Any court will see the matter at that time when engineering council sends some criminal complaint.

IHC maintained continuing the proceedings by FIA without powers in this situation is wastage of time.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir while releasing decision on the petition of PEC remarked registering of FIR by FIA is overstepping the powers. PEC has powers to hold inquiry into such matters. Therefore, the FIR registered in FIA investigation unit is dismissed.

The court remarked PEC should itself hear complaint and give decision as per law.
