Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered to speed up the action against the smoke emitting vehicles on roads.
As per media reports Justice Shahid Karim of LHC has remarked that securing historical heritage in Neela Gumband project is good omen.
The petitions filed by citizen Haroon Farooq and others came up for hearing before Justice Shahid Karim in LHC Friday.
The court remarked during the hearing of the case air quality index is being recorded more than all in Bahawalpur at present.
Its main reason is heavy traffic. Still smoke emitting vehicles on roads can be seen.
The court remarked senior officers of environment department should be seen standing on the roads. People will themselves care when you are seen standing on the roads. Still a lot of construction works are underway in Lahore.
There is dust every where due to development projects.
Justice Shahid Karim remarked there is no benefit of anti smog if the dirt to such level has to come again. This thing will have to be stopped. All other departments including LDA should complete their respective work.
The court summoned report on next hearing in respect of WASA meters.
The state counsel assured no tree will be hewed in cantonment areas without permission.
Counsel for PHA said he was appointed as consultant in Yellow line project then I had said in clear terms that no tree would be cut. I had asked DG if he accords approval to cut the tree then I would resign.
Justice Shahid Karim remarked this is great thing. Man should stand firm by his principles.
The report regarding project of restoration of roads of LDA was also presented in the court. It was told in the report 62 projects of restoration of roads are underway in the city. 27 projects have not been handed over by WASA to LDA so far.
WASA has completed 35 projects and handed over to LDA.
LHC while adjourning the hearing for one week called reports from the respective departments.
