Islamabad: Her Excellency Maja Mortensen, the newly appointed Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, paid a courtesy call on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, at the Finance Division today, reaffirming both countries commitment to strengthening economic and development ties.
During the meeting, Ambassador Mortensen expressed enthusiasm for her diplomatic tenure and highlighted the vibrancy of Pakistan-Denmark relations, noting that three Danish delegations are visiting Pakistan this week as a sign of growing bilateral engagement. She also appreciated the warm welcome and favourable conditions since her arrival.
Senator Aurangzeb congratulated the Ambassador and underscored the governments commitment to deepening ties with Denmark, particularly in trade, investment, energy cooperation, and sustainable development. He highlighted improvements in Pakistans macroeconomic fundamentals, including enhanced foreign exchange reserves, declining inflation, a stable currency, and strengthened relationships with major partners such as the United States, China, GCC countries, and the European Union.
The Finance Minister emphasized efforts to enable foreign investment, citing the clearing of outstanding foreign payment backlogs and ongoing fiscal and monetary stabilization measures. He highlighted reforms including broadening the tax base, improving compliance, reducing leakages in the energy sector, and lowering financing costs as inflation continues to fall.
Ambassador Mortensen noted strong commercial interest from Danish companies in Pakistan, including in logistics, maritime infrastructure, manufacturing, and energy, and emphasized Denmarks readiness to work closely with Pakistani authorities to ensure consistent and transparent business conditions.
Discussions also covered the upcoming GCC framework meetings, Danish investment interest in Pakistans port and logistics ecosystem, and collaboration opportunities in green transition, energy efficiency, and technological innovation. The Ambassador highlighted Denmarks government-to-government cooperation in the energy sector, supported by the Danish Energy Agency, focusing on energy modelling, infrastructure planning, grid efficiency, and capacity building.
The Finance Minister was briefed on Denmarks major wastewater treatment project in Faisalabad, implemented with WASA and Danish financing, including a significant grant component. The project follows a six-year engagement model to ensure sustainability and knowledge transfer.
Ambassador Mortensen expressed interest in engaging with the Danish Business Club in Pakistan and visiting Lahore and Karachi to meet industry leaders and strengthen commercial ties. Both sides also exchanged views on climate finance reforms, noting Denmarks global leadership and Pakistans integration of sustainable development objectives within national budgeting processes.
Senator Aurangzeb thanked the Ambassador for her visit and reiterated Pakistans commitment to further deepening bilateral relations across economic, developmental, and environmental spheres. Both parties agreed to maintain regular engagement to sustain positive momentum in Pakistan-Denmark cooperation.
