Islamabad: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced the formation of an Adhoc Governance and Management Committee in a strategic move aimed at modernizing administrative structures and reviving hockey across the country.
According to the PHF, the initiative represents a major structural shift designed to improve governance standards and elevate the overall performance of Pakistan's national sport.
As part of efforts to strengthen technical excellence, legendary Olympians Hassan Sardar and Islahuddin have been appointed as co-chairs of the Professional Development Committee. Their responsibilities will include oversight of national team selection, implementation of specialized training protocols, and the establishment of rigorous benchmarks for coaches and players.
The long-term management selection process will be carried out by the Professional Advisory Committee, also co-chaired by Hassan Sardar and Islahuddin. Additional members of this committee will be inducted in consultation with the two former Olympians.
To ensure focused and specialized oversight, the PHF has separated corporate governance, marketing, and resource mobilization from technical hockey operations. The members of the newly constituted Governance and Management Committee include:

Mr. Shakeel Shah (Member Customs) - Departmental Coordination and Outreach
Amir Ibrahim - Corporate and Marketing Support
Ghulam Ali Mallah - School and College Sports Promotion
Brig. (Retd) Akmal Aziz - Services and Institutional Coordination
The PHF clarified that all members of the Governance Committee will serve on an honorary basis, contributing their expertise to help restore Pakistan hockey to competitive prominence.
'This is an interim roadmap to correct the direction. There is no shortcut to success, but clear direction and seriousness of effort will be visible,' a PHF spokesperson said.
'We will mobilise all institutions to connect hockey at the grassroots level,' the spokesperson added.
The federation said these reforms underline its commitment to transparency, professional merit, and institutional collaboration, ensuring that the national game receives the corporate and technical support required for a global comeback.
The PHF expressed confidence that the new governance framework will lead to a positive transformation and help restore Pakistan hockey to its former glory.
