Pakistan’s foreign policy is rooted in the principles of UN Charter: Ishaq Dar

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's dedication to promoting peace, justice, and prosperity while marking United Nations (UN) Day, which commemorates the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter's entry into force in 1945. He emphasized that Pakistan's foreign policy is rooted in the principles of the UN Charter,

In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Dar reiterated Pakistan's unwavering support for multilateralism and collective efforts to address global challenges such as conflicts, humanitarian crises, development disparities, and climate change.

Dar emphasized that Pakistan's foreign policy is rooted in the principles of the UN Charter, including sovereignty, non-interference, self-determination, and peaceful dispute resolution, reflecting Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's vision.

He noted that Pakistan has long been an active participant in the UN system, ranking among the top contributors to peacekeeping operations and hosting the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).

Referring to ongoing injustices, Dar highlighted the violations of international law in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Gaza, condemning the denial of self-determination and humanitarian suffering in both regions.

As Pakistan prepares to serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2025-26, Dar pledged to continue advancing diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation to uphold the UN Charter's vision of global peace and human dignity.

Meanwhile, Ishaq Dar spoke on the phone late last night with the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The two leaders discussed bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest as well as recent regional and global developments, and agreed to stay closely engaged.

Furthermore, Dar chaired a meeting to review the flow of remittances from abroad, particularly from GCC countries.

The DPM/FM emphasized the need to increase, improve, and facilitate remittance flows through the use of digital technologies, reducing transfer time and minimizing transaction costs to better serve overseas Pakistanis and their families.

The meeting was attended by SAPM Tariq Bajwa, the Governor and Deputy Governor State Bank of Pakistan, and other concerned officials.
