Air chief marshal congratulates Hamza Khan for winning World Junior Squash Championship

Islamabad: Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu congratulated Hamza Khan for winning the World Junior Squash Championship, the spokesperson of the Pakistan Air Force said in a statement on Monday..

Hamza Khan won the title by defeating Egypt’s Mohammad Zakaria by a score of 3-1 in the final match played in Australia, said the spokesperson.

He said the air chief congratulated the young champion for bringing the title back to Pakistan after 37 years.

“The victory brought back memories of Jan Sher Khan’s victory in the World Squash Championship in 1986. This win is a great comeback for Pakistan in the game of squash. The entire nation is proud of Hamza Khan’s brilliant performance, which raised the green crescent flag in the game of squash,” the Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu said.

He said the PAF had always played an active role for the promotion of squash in the country.

Pakistan Air Force, along with the Pakistan Squash Federal (PSF), will continue to support the young players with the best abilities for this purpose while continuing the series of such victories for the nation, the air chief said.

He appreciated the hard work of the coaching staff for providing international standard training and coaching facilities to the young players.

“The efforts made by the PSF management to restore Pakistan’s lost reputation in the game of squash is commendable,” Zaheer Ahmed said.

20-members squad for the 2023 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games announced .

LAHORE: Pakistan has announced a 20-members squad for the 2023 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games .

Announcement has been made by Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) here. Besides Pakistan, teams from Australia, England and India will also participate in world blind games commencing from 17th of next month in Birmingham UK.

Over 1250 competitors from 70 nations will be participating in World Blind Games.

The 2023 World Games is the largest high-level international event for athletes with visual impairment,

LHC Justice Anwaar Hussain greenlights PCB chairman election

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday withdrew its injunction against the election of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, giving the government the go-ahead to conduct elections for the coveted post.

During a hearing, Justice Anwaar Hussain heard all the arguments and pronounced his decision on the petition for a stay order against the elections.

The court then sent the consolidated petitions to Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti for fixation. The LHC stayed the election of the chairman after suspending the notification of the Board of Governors last week.

It also issued notices to the federal government, the PCB election commissioner, and others.

In the petition of one Malik Zulifqar, it was contended that Chief Election Commissioner Shahzad Farooq Rana had made several changes to the list of the BoGs, which was finalised by the interim management committee on June 20. It alleged that the act of the chief election commissioner was "illegal".

The petition implored the court for a stay order in this regard, which the court granted.

It is pertinent to mention that last week, the Balochistan High Court also stopped the election of the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, pending further orders. On Monday, PCB lawyer Imtiaz Rashid Siddiqui opposed the stay order and requested the court to permit holding the election of the chairman PCB.

Earlier, the PCB postponed the elections for its new chairman after a stay order was issued by the Balochistan High Court's two-member bench last week.

Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Amir Nawaz issued an order to stop the elections till July 17.

Because of the Eid ul Adha holidays and the two weeks of summer vacation for the court, the court will resume listening to the arguments on July 17.

LHC stays election of PCB chairman

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has stayed the election of chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The court while issuing notice to federal government, PCB Election commissioner and other respondents has sought reply from them.

The case came up for hearing before single bench of LHC led by Justice Anwar Hussain Tuesday.

Nida Kafeel, counsel for the petitioner Malik Zulfiqar took the plea PCB election commissioner constituted new Board of Governors (BOG) by removing board of governors from their positions.

The petitioner requested the court to declare the constitution of new BOG on its own unconstitutional. Order be issued for stopping PCB elections till the decision of the court.

After hearing the arguments LHC stayed holding of chairman PCB election.

It is pertinent to mention here the election of PCB chairman was postponed two days before on the order of Balochistan High Court (BHC).

PCB had also postponed its meeting to be held on Tuesday in Lahore in connection with election of new chairman.
