Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met German Parliament Member Derya Trk-Nachbaur in Lahore and discussed matters of bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation, women empowerment, education, youth exchanges, environment, and clean energy.
Maryam Nawaz thanked Germany for its solidarity during recent floods and congratulated the Friedrich Ebert Foundation on its 100th anniversary, appreciating its 35 years of service in Pakistan. She said the Foundation has played a vital role in promoting democracy, social justice, and mutual dialogue between Pakistan and Germany.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation as a bridge of trust and understanding, proposing joint training workshops for legislators, women assembly members, and young leaders under the Foundation's programs. She also expressed interest in adopting Germany's dual vocational training model to enhance youth employability.
Maryam Nawaz said that Pakistan-Germany trade has grown to US$ 3.6 billion in 2024 and invited further German investment in renewable energy, agricultural technology, IT services, and clean manufacturing. She noted that over 10,000 Pakistani students are currently studying in German universities.
Highlighting Punjab's focus on women empowerment through schemes like E-bike, Honhar scholarship, and women's enclaves, she said such initiatives ensure women's safe and dignified economic participation. She also welcomed enhanced cultural cooperation with Germany, describing Punjab's historic sites as symbols of shared cultural heritage.
