IHC reserves judgment on petition seeking formation of JC to investigate journalist Arshid Sharif murder

Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved judgment on the petitions seeking formation of Judicial Commission (JC) to investigate into murder of journalist Arshid Sharif.

Justice Inam Amin Minhas remarked when a matter is pending hearing in Supreme Court (SC) then how can a high court give decision on it.

The petitions filed by journalist Hamid Mir and Javeria Siddique wife of Shaheed Arshid Sharif came up for hearing before Justice Inam Amin Minhas.

Barrister Shoaib Razzaq counsel for Hamid Mir while giving arguments told the court decision was reserved on the petition seeking formation of JC on August 27 last year. But no progress has been made so far. We want to know under what circumstances FIR was registered. Under what circumstances Arshid Sharif left Pakistan How his murder took place later.

He said 16 FIRs were registered against Arshid Sharif. He sent his message regarding return to Pakistan to his friends and later he was murdered. We are demanding for JC so that the truth could come to open. Commission be sent to Kenya.

Shoaib Razaq further said when Hamid Mir was attacked then Supreme Court had constituted commission. At least credit for 25 years media services be given to Arshid Sharif that his matter could be discussed openly.

Justice Inam Amin Minhas remarked when a matter is pending hearing in SC then how can high court give decision.

The counsel took the plea eventually the investigations have to be made by commission. The court will have to decide when reports of different institutions come.

DIG Owais told the court mutual assistance with Kenya is in process. FIR has been registered in this case. Challans have been filed. Two accused have been declared proclaimed offenders.

According to Punjab police 7 reports have been filed in SC.

The counsel said it is limited to only filing reports. This is not only matter of me or Hamid Mir but it is matter of the entire country.

The court reserved judgment following the completion of arguments.

It is pertinent to mention here former Chief Justice IHC Aamir Farooq too had also reserved judgment after hearing arguments on this matter.
