Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on World Health Day, reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to building a healthier and more resilient nation under the theme 'Together for Health-Stand with Science.' He emphasized that scientific progress must be translated into practical health policies and services for public welfare.
The Prime Minister stated that Pakistan is gradually shifting its healthcare system from a treatment-focused model to a preventive and health promotion-based approach, with Primary Health Care as the foundation for achieving Universal Health Coverage. Highlighting ongoing reforms, he noted the expansion of the Essential Package of Health Services (EPHS) at national and district levels under the National Health Support Program to improve access to essential care. He also underscored the role of digital health in the upcoming National Health and Population Policy (2026-2035), including systems like DHIS-2, telemedicine, and data-driven platforms.
The Prime Minister further stressed the importance of addressing population growth, sanitation, water, and nutrition through a multisectoral approach. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening health financing and expanding insurance coverage to ensure financial protection for citizens, stating that no Pakistani should fall into poverty due to healthcare expenses.
