Lahore: A prayer ceremony was held in Lahore to mark the death anniversary of eminent Kashmiri religious and political leader and former President of Azad Kashmir Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Yousaf Shah.
The ceremony was organized by Kashmir Centre Lahore (Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell) at Masjid Bhag Ali Shah and was attended by people from political, social, religious and literary circles, as well as intellectuals, students and members of the Kashmiri community.
The event was addressed by religious scholar Molana Shafi Josh, PTI leader Farooq Azad, Kashmiri community leader Allama Mushtaq Qadri, Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Atif Mir and In-charge Kashmir Centre Lahore Inam-ul-Hassan Kashmiri.
Speakers paid rich tribute to the late leader, describing him as a distinguished religious scholar and visionary statesman who dedicated his life to protecting the political, religious and social rights of the Kashmiri people. They said Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Yousaf Shah played a significant role in guiding the Kashmir freedom movement and inspiring younger generations with the spirit of freedom and dignity.
The speakers also highlighted that despite facing difficult circumstances, he consistently raised his voice for truth and justice and remained committed to the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.
They further said that the sacrifices and leadership of such figures continue to inspire the Kashmiri people, who remain steadfast in their struggle for their fundamental right to self-determination amid ongoing human rights concerns in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to continue raising the Kashmir issue at international forums and to support the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people. Special prayers were offered at the end of the ceremony for the departed soul, the prosperity and security of Pakistan and the early freedom of Kashmir.
