Lahore: Punjab recorded 969 honour killing cases between 2021 and 2026, with 1,027 women and 225 men falling victim to the crime during the period, according to official documents.
The documents show that 2,137 accused persons were nominated in honour killing cases, while 1,740 suspects were arrested by law enforcement authorities.
A total of 943 cases were challaned, while 15 cases remain under investigation. Courts convicted 192 accused persons, whereas 631 were acquitted due to lack of evidence or other legal grounds.
District-wise data showed that Faisalabad reported the highest number of honour killing cases with 89 incidents, followed by Sargodha with 68, Rajanpur with 60, Rahim Yar Khan with 55 and Khanewal with 38 cases.
Year-wise statistics revealed that 197 cases were reported in 2021, 176 in 2022 and 150 in 2023. The number increased to 205 in 2024 and remained high at 202 cases in 2025. During the current year, 39 cases have been reported so far.
The documents identified key factors behind honour killings, including marriages without family consent, tribal and customary practices, social pressure, gender discrimination and disputes arising from personal relationships.
