Govt has abolished outdated system of providing relief to people during Ramazan: PM

Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has launched a Rs38 billion Ramazan relief package.

Under this package every eligible family will be given Rs 13000.

Addressing a ceremony here PM said government has abolished outdated system of providing relief to people in holy month of Ramazan which was in place in past.

He held earlier relief was extended through utility stores during holy month of Ramazan. The standard of edibles and food items was very poor. The process of purchasing from utility stores was also disturbing. We bade farewell to this system last year.

He held during the previous Ramazan cash payment was made to the deserving families through digital system.

Countless challenges came on the way in introducing new system which we met successfully. Cell was set up to hear and redress the complaints of people ..

He pointed out that a sum of Rs 20 billion was disbursed among the eligible families in transparent manner during Ramazan last year.

Rs 38 billion have been allocated for Ramazan package this year which will be distributed among the deserving families in all the four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Payments will be made through bank accounts and digital wallets to 12.1 million eligible families, with each family receiving Rs 13,000 without discrimination.

I will review it persistently for effective implementation of program, he announced.

The Prime Minister said last year, we conducted a third party audit of the payments made to the deserving people and no lapse or corruption was identified therein.

Minister for poverty alleviation Syed Imran Shah said direct payment of Rs 13000 per eligible family will be made. Poverty alleviation is our mission and we will continue it under the leadership of PM Shehbaz Sharif.
