SC dismisses bail after arrest plea of accused involved in publicity of blasphemous material


Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed bail after arrest plea of an accused involved in publicity of blasphemous material.



The court while adjourning hearing of petitions filed for cancellation of bail of 11 accused who were released on bail by Sindh High Court till June 18 issued non bailable arrest warrants of one accused among them for not appearing in Supreme Court (SC).



Hearing of appeal pleas filed by 2 convicts involved in publicity of blasphemous content against their death sentence was adjourned without any proceedings.



A 3-member bench of SC comprising Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad, justice Aqeel Abbasi and justice Shakeel Ahmad heard different cases.



The bail after arrest plea filed by Saqib Shams accused in propagation of blasphemous material on social media was rejected by the court.



Imran Haider the counsel for the accused took the plea before the court the accused is in jail since more than two years but his trial has not been completed so far. Therefore he deserves for release on bail.



Adil Aziz Qazi counsel for plaintiff in this case while diverting the attention of court to the orders of trial court told the delay in trial is due to the accused. The counsels for the accused are not cross questioning the witnesses.



Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad head of the bench while expressing resentment over the counsel of the accused remarked why are you not allowing the trial to be completed. Why are you not cross questioning the witnesses. Delay in trial is from your side. Will you withdraw your bail plea or we should decide it on merit.



Counsel for the accused requested the court to approve bail plea of his client by issuing directives to trial court for deciding the case.



The learned judge of the bench remarked we will issue no directive to trial court. Now decision has come. We cannot issue any directive to subordinate courts.



The court dismissed the bail plea being withdrawn by the counsel of the said accused.
